Praising God is another thing we are told to do with our whole heart. (See http://revtrev.link/heart) Remember, the Hebrew understanding of heart was that it’s the seat of our decision and our emotions and our actions.
It’s a choice to praise God before the answer comes, in that dark of the night and in the middle of the storm. We feel joy when we praise Him. God inhabits the praise of His people and in His presence is fullness of joy. And our actions to praise can include singing, playing instruments, praying, dancing, testifying His good deeds, gratitude, living righteously, offering sacrifices, meditating, kneeling or bowing down, shouting or crying out, and living a life of obedience.
It’s natural and unstoppable to praise God when the answer comes, the storms clears or the night turns to dawn. When are hearts are set on Him, praise naturally erupts at those times. Before those times it’s a choice and that choice can be toxic if we don’t align our whole heart.
You’ve felt that right? You’ve sang the songs when they were meaningful and powerful and you’ve sang the same songs when they sounded hollow and just didn’t feel true. The difference is praising God with your whole heart. When you praise God with a decision, your emotion and an action, it’s alive and full of meaning. If you sing because you’re there and maybe because people are watching you, it feels like something else entirely. It actually feels a bit toxic.
So check out Negativity Fast Reflection - I Choose To Praise and exchange your spirit of heaviness for a garment of praise when you praise Him with your heart.

I choose to praise him before the battle starts. I praise him before my answer comes. I praise him in the middle of the storm. I praise him because he is worthy of praise. I praise him because it changes me. I am never impressed with the size of my problem when I’m impressed with the glory of my God.
Have I chosen to praise him lately?

We need to trust in the Lord with all our heart. That’s our decision to trust Him in spite of the circumstance. The emotion that aligns in peace (and hope and joy) when we’re trusting Him. The action is walking by faith not by sight.
We don’t do this to ignore the most brutal facts of the reality we are facing. But we can’t give God credit for the works of the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy. We need to treat all hardship as discipline, knowing we have a good Father who is going to work all things together for good by making us more and more like Jesus through the hardship.
What do you need to trust God in? Perhaps this Negativity Fast Reflection - I Trust In The Lord With All My Heart will encourage you to trust Him with your whole heart - your decision, your actions and your emotions.

Can we really grow stronger when life is impossible? In this world we will have trouble. But we can take heart because Christ has overcome the world. How can we do that? How can we thrive and not merely survive?
I’m not going to tell you it’s easy or “just follow these 5 steps”.
I’m going to let you know how I’ve learned to do it. This has been learned and earned. This is not theory.
I’m Trevor Lund, content creator for RevTrev.com and the founder of Live LIGHT Academy on LiveLIGHT.ca This is the Live LIGHT LIVECast.
Listen to how to grow stronger when life seems impossible
Read to how to grow stronger when life seems impossible
All of us have our own story and all of us are on our own journey. It’s great when we don’t have to walk it alone.
Maybe something in my story will connect in something in yours.
I was a young pastor at an amazing church and I felt God asked me to leave my family and friends and future on the altar and move to New Zealand without any reason beyond obedience. The heaven’s didn’t open when I stepped onto the soil. My dad was diagnosed with Bulbar ALS and was given a short time to live. And it wasn’t long until we felt we should return home and be with family. It took me some time before I realized I was living offended at God. He set me up and I didn’t have a language to explain how I felt. He was the potter, I was the clay, I was the work of his hands…and I didn’t like being thrown and re-thrown and re-thrown and re-thrown onto the wheel to be reformed again and again and again.
When I realized I could be offended at God, I realized I could repent of that and he healed me.
I was back to being a pastor and there’s a whole lot of story to that, but remember that in this world you will have trouble. I remember speaking a message and sitting down and then sensing a menacing voice say “that’s the last sermon you’re ever going to give.” I brushed it off, but a few days later, had a heart attack.
And since then, it’s been doctor’s appointments and medication to get on and off, and tests showed nothing and solutions that didn’t work and not just MD’s Cardiologist, but Dermatologist and Neurologists and Gastroenterologist and I started wearing reading glasses and using hearing aids.
And so it’s had to become intentional for me. I needed to know how not just survive, but somehow to thrive.
What do you do when you’re faced with the realities of life - however brutal or enigmatic.
You and I need to know how to take up our positions, stand firm and see the deliverance of the Lord.
These are decisions I need to make daily because I’ve not just learned them, I’ve earned them.
Take up your position and STAND Tool
S - Stop giving God credit for the works of the one who comes to steal, kill and destroy. - John 10:10
T- Treat all hardship as discipline knowing He is a good Father and will work all things together for good. - Hebrews 12:7-11
A - Agree to cast all your cares upon him, because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:7
N- Never forget that the God of all hope fills you with all peace and joy as you trust in him, so that you can overflow with hope by the power of Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
D - Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything and thank him in all things, knowing that’s his will for you. - Philippians 4:6-7
Challenge
This is not Christian stoicism. It’s not about having a stiff-upper lip and ignoring your emotions. Your emotions show you what you actually believe.
Pay attention to what your emotions show you about what you really believe. For example, if I don’t have peace, I know there’s a good chance I’m not trusting God.
Where has your peace been, where has your hope been, where has your joy been lately?
Let your emotions show you what you are actually believing.

I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart reflection
I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvellous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because of you.I will sing praises to your name, O Most High. With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever.
I praise you for who you are. I thank you for what you have done. I rejoice over your promise to me.
When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers — the moon and the stars you set in place— what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? I am humbled and am in awe.
From ancient times no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you who works for those who wait for Him and who trust in Him. I remember all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.
I remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles. You are for me and not against me and since you are for me, who can be against me? You are my Father. I am the clay, and you are the potter. I am formed by your hand.
Reflection Question
Have I been praising God with my whole heart lately?
Can I pray?
Lord, you are so good. I thank you that as we praise you we can become more like you because we become like the One we worship. I thank you that praising you is for our sake, never yours. How can bring glory to the Glorious One? We add our praise to creatures and elders around myriads and myriads around your throne. Wow. Help us praise you with our whole heart our whole lives. Amen.

I thank the Lord and praise His name with my whole heart Reflection
I thank the Lord and praise His name! I tell everyone what He has done. I let them know how mighty He is and amazing He is. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems my life from the pit and crowns me with love and compassion. He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like it’s on the wings of eagles!
Sometimes and some seasons I soar on wings as eagles. Sometimes and some seasons I run and not grow weary. Sometimes and some seasons I walk and do not faint. Sometimes and some seasons He lifts me up out of the pit of despair — out of the mud and mire — and sets my feet on solid ground and steadies me as I walk along.
I thank Him that I have gone through deep waters, and He has been with me. I have been through the rivers and not been swept away. I have been through fire and not been burned, the flames did not set me ablaze.
He has been with me and has never left me. Even when I have denied Him, He has never denied me. So now I won’t deny Him before people, knowing He won’t deny me before the Father. He has been so, so good.
Every good and perfect gift comes from Him. I rejoice in Him always. I enter His presence with thanksgiving. This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it! I thank Him and praise His glorious name. Thanks be to Him for His indescribable gift!

I love and serve God with my whole heart reflection
I love and serve God with my whole heart. I love the Lord my God with all my heart, all my soul, all my strength, and all my mind. I love my neighbour as myself.
I decide to love and serve Him. I choose to be patient and kind. I am not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. I do not demand my own way. I am not irritable, and I keep no record of being wronged. I do not rejoice about injustice but I rejoice whenever the truth wins out. I never give up, never lose faith, am always hopeful, and endure through every circumstance.
I love Him with my actions. I obey Jesus and keep His commandments. I remain in His love. His perfect love casts out all fear. I love others and His love is complete in me. The Father loves me and they have come and made their home with me.
I love Him with my emotions. I love God more than my greatest love, my earliest love, my dearest love, and my nearest love. I love because He first loved me. I do not love the world or the things of the world. I know that love of the world squeezes out love for the Father.
I have given up wanting my own way, wanting everything for myself, wanting to appear important. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life have no rent-free space in my brain.
I have chosen and I show and I know that I love and serve God with my whole heart.
Reflection Question
Would others say I have been loving and serving God lately?
Can I pray?
Lord, thank you that you made us for love and thank you for being so loveable. Thank you for revealing your Father’s heart to us. Thank you for loving us first and so well. Help us to live loved knowing we are loved. And help us to love others the way you have loved us. Thank you love is your fruit that you’re growing in us. Help us to love and serve you more and more. Amen.

I understand my emotions and my whole heart reflection
I understand my emotions and my whole heart. My emotions show me what I truly believe. I may say I trust God, but if I don’t have peace and joy and hope I know I’m fooling myself. Trusting God brings me peace at all times and in every situation.
My emotions aren’t bad, they are excellent servants. They show me what I actually believe. When I let any emotion but peace rule my heart, I see my emotions are terrible masters. Excellent servant and terrible masters is every emotion - except the emotions that Holy Spirit grows in my life as He grows all the fruit of the Spirit.
Love and joy and peace show me that my heart is aligning with God’s heart. I do everything in love. I have ridiculous joy. I have peace at all times and in every situation.
Love is a decision, an action and an emotion. I love others because He first loved me. Joy is how I respond to external circumstances with inner contentment and satisfaction, because I know that God is working all things together for good. Peace is proof of my authority and deep understanding that I trust Him. The God of all hope fills me with peace and joy as I trust in Him so that I overflow with hope by the power of Holy Spirit.
Reflection Question
Are love and joy and peace the emotions I most feel most often?
Can I pray?
Lord, thank you for our emotions. Thank you for revealing to us that you have emotions as well and we are made in your image. We bless the emotions that honour you. We choose to let peace rule in our hearts. Thank you that it’s your peace that rules and not something we have to work up in ourselves. Help us to trust you so that we can have the peace and joy and hope you want us to have. Amen.

My heart says of you, “Seek His face!” Reflection
My heart says of you, “Seek His face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Earnestly, I seek you. I thirst for you. My whole being longs for you in a dry and parched land where there is no water. But peace and joy and gladness come to me as I seek you. I know when I seek you, I will find you because I seek you with all of my heart.
Early in the morning I lift my prayers to you. I come to you with my problems and exchange them for your peace. I cast my cares on you because you care for me. Thank you for caring for me and thank you for putting your righteousness on me.
Because of what you’ve done I have clean hands and a pure heart. I don’t practice dishonestly and I do not tell lies. I have placed no other God before you. I turn away from evil and do good. I seek peace, and work to maintain it.
When I fast and in my everyday, I help to free those who are wrongly imprisoned. I lighten the burden of the ones who work for me and wait on me. I help the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. I share my food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. I give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need my help.
I humbly follow your commands. I seek to do what it right and live humbly. I humble myself before the Lord and live humbly towards others, looking out for their interests and not just my own. I seek the Lord and find him. I seek the Lord and live.
Reflection Question
Would Holy Spirit agree I’ve been seeking the Lord lately?
Can I pray?
Lord, I thank you we can seek the you and find you and when we seek you we live! Help us to seek you with all of our hearts. You’re not an add-on to a busy schedule that we sometime forget to include. You are GOD very GOD and you invite us on this dance with the divine. Forgive us for making rules for your rhythms. Help us to move to the rhythms of your grace and do good. Amen.
