The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song. I will enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. I will give thanks to Him and praise His name. A joyful heart is good medicine. Gratitude promotes healing. My Father makes me happier and healthier through gratitude.

He blesses my bread and my water; and He heals my body and makes it so I will fulfill the number of my days. Being grateful for that lifts my spirits and increases my energy levels.

He lets me rest in green meadows; and leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. Gratitude enhances my mental and physical wellbeing. He guides me along the right paths, bringing honour to His name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for He is close beside me. A hearty immune system and cheerful outlook helps to protect me from illness and depression.

Gratitude strengthens my relationships. I let the peace of Christ rule in my heart and am thankful for those He has connected me with. I feel more connected to family and friends when I choose to show them the appreciation I feel for them. When we have a conflict, I honour them and I am quick to ask for forgiveness or, if necessary, forgive. I enjoy more love and harmony.

I am grateful with my whole heart.

I keep a gratitude journal and decide to write about what I feel grateful for, along with my commitments to show my appreciation to others. I engage my emotions, my decisions and my actions and am grateful with my whole heart. And I read my journal when I am tempted to complain or feel sorry for myself.

Today, I cultivate gratitude in abundance. I recognize the precious blessings that fill my life. My choice of gratitude promotes healing in my body and relationships.

Whenever I look around me, I see something to be thankful for. I am so blessed by God. I take time to feel grateful for what He has blessed me with and am humbled every time. He has entrusted me with so much. I will praise the Lord, with all my heart; I will remember of all the marvellous things He has done. Gratitude is essential to life and really living.

I am grateful each morning as I awaken to the day - I am reminded His mercies are new every morning, so great is His faithfulness. I will not be anxious about anything, but I will pray about everything. With thanksgiving, I exchange my problems for His peace.

As I am still and know that He is God, I remember all my days have been ordained before one of them came to be. I am not my own; I have been bought with a price. I belong to God. He’s given me everything I need for life and godliness. How can I not worry about nothing, pray about everything and give thanks in all things?

My life is not perfect, but my God is. Out of my gratitude to Him, my appreciation for others blooms. I honour all people. Saying thanks is easy for me. I maintain eye contact to show that I appreciate whatever I receive. I let nothing come out of my mouth that is not for the encouragement of others.

When I am in stressful situations with others, I ask my God what He loves about them and then compliment them on what Holy Spirit shows me. I thank my God because of them. I bless others and am blessed and encourage others and am encouraged.

Today, gratitude is a recurring theme in each of my experiences. I am humbled by the opportunity to receive anything that someone else wants to bless me with. Life is a true blessing and gratitude is essential to really living life.

Read Gratitude is not a struggle for me

Gratitude is not a struggle for me because I start with all God has done for me. I will thank God in front of the great assembly and will praise Him before all the people. I am thankful for so many things. He has blessed me with every spiritual blessing in Christ. He’s given me everything I need for life and godliness. I see His blessing every time I turn around. In my family, career, and everyone in my everyday world, I am richly blessed. For all these things and more, gratitude comes easily to me.

He has settled my boundary stones in pleasant places. As I follow Him, I know I am on the right path, and I am thankful for it. Whether it is the job through which I receive my living, or I’m working on a passion He has entrusted to me, I feel blessed to have a calling in life. Gratitude is my natural response to His blessing and revelation.

The gifts and talents He has entrusted to me to share with the world are valuable and valued, and I am thankful for them and humbled by them. Some come easily to me. Others, I work to develop because He gave me the passion to get better with them. All of them are worth having, and I count myself so blessed to have been entrusted with them.

When I notice myself feeling less grateful, I take deep breaths and look around me. I pause and invite Holy Spirit. I enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. What do I see that is good? Small things remind me to be grateful, like my partner’s hand on my shoulder and an amazing day with perfect weather. I would not want to miss any of His blessings. God is so good to me.

Today, every opportunity in my life brings me joy. From the blessing I receive from Him to the gifts I have been entrusted to give, every thing is received with thanksgiving! Each day, I cultivate my emotions by feeling grateful for what I have.

I feel so thankful whenever I think about the ones in my everyday world who have been generous with me. When I have needed encouragement, it has been given. And when I have needed help, it often came before I asked. When I have needed forgiveness, it was not withheld.

My life is blessed by the generous and grace-filled people the Father has intentionally placed all around me. They are generous on every occasion and I thank my God because of them. I show appreciation to them in ways they appreciate.

I remember it is more blessed to give than it is to receive and I remember gratitude invites the grace to be blessed when I receive. I have had to humble myself and choose gratitude and allow those who want to serve me, encourage me, and bless me to do that. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

I am mindful that those I want to encourage, bless, and serve may not receive it in the spirit that it is given. A loud blessing too early in the morning can be considered a curse. Today, I need to keep in step with Holy Spirit and do everything as unto the Lord, knowing it is Jesus I am serving with every cup of cold water I share.

I know as I refresh others, I will be refreshed and as I bless others, I will be blessed. My Father loves a cheerful giver. I know the joy of the Lord is my strength. I am thankful He empowers me to accomplish every good work prompted by faith.

Today, I am grateful for each of my blessings and for everyone who blesses me. I remain thankful for the blessings that others bring to my life.

Every day I learn something new that reminds me of how much I need God’s grace. His grace empowers me to accomplish everything I can’t do on my own. His grace for me reminds me to show grace to others. My gratitude unveils His grace.

My good Father opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humility is not thinking less about myself, but about thinking of myself less. Gratitude for what I have helps me show grace for what others need. I do not think about my needs alone, I also consider the needs of others. I know what is good and what the Lord requires of me - to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with my God.

I humble myself before God, knowing He will lift me up. He is God I am not. He is King, and that’s a good thing. I can trust the One who is trustable to finish the good work He’s started in me and so I can trust Him to finish the good work He’s started in others. As I am thankful for the grace He shows me, I can show similar grace to others. As His grace empowers me, my grace empowers them. It is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance.

His grace is sufficient for me, for His power is made perfect in weakness. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and His grace toward me is not without effect. Yes, I work hard—yet it is not me that’s working. It is the grace of God that is working through me. Gratitude reminds me of this transformational truth.

Today, I am grateful for all my experiences and truly grateful for His all-sufficient grace. I commit to acknowledging the blessing in each moment, humble myself before God, and I will be still and know that He is God.

I feel grateful for everyone in my everyday world and every single person my Father brings across my path. Everyone is a blessing, and each encounter is an opportunity to show them Jesus and become more like Jesus. Therefore, I choose to show appreciation.

I let no word come out of my mouth that isn’t for the building up of others as I seek to encourage others and build them up. I look out for their interests and not simply my own, and I give thanks to my God because of them.

When a conversation starts out less than encouraging, I remember to ask Holy Spirit what He loves about the person. What He shows me, I genuinely compliment them on. It diffuses most situations and helps me see why they are so passionate about the issue. It brings Him and His peace and sometimes His joy into the moment.

I also show gratitude by serving those around me. I serve others in love and I serve them as unto the Lord. Because He first loved me, I can love them. Perfect love is the love I receive from Him and share with them. Perfect love is limitless because His love has no bounds.

To everyone I meet, regardless of the type of encounter we have, I silently say, “Thank you who you are and for your purpose in this life.” I bless them with the love of the Lord.

Today, I affirm my appreciation towards others by making eye contact and smiling and putting their needs ahead of my own. It’s a decision, emotion and action of gratitude that confirms I appreciate wholeheartedly those He’s blessed me with and entrusts me to.

Read Each day I am grateful for simple things

I am strengthened with all His glorious power, so I have all the endurance and patience I need. I am filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled me to share in the inheritance that belongs to His people, who live in the light. He has transferred me from the dominion of darkness to His wonderful kingdom of light. Today is truly an amazing gift from Him.

I am filled with wonder with all I see around me and I feel gratefulness rise in me at the sound of a child’s voice, the fragrance of flowers in the air and the sight of dew-laden grass in the morning. I think of the smile on my friend’s face, or I notice the sound of the birds singing in the early evening. My thoughts lead me back to feeling gratitude for these simple things that show me His light in my life.

With eyes wide open to the mercies of God, I give Him my life, as a living sacrifice, consecrated to Him and acceptable by Him. I don’t let the world around me squeeze me into its own mould, but let God re-mould my mind from within, so that I prove in practice that the plan of God is good, meets all His demands and moves me towards the goal of true maturity. I remind myself to look around and find what brings me feelings of joy and gratitude.

The simplest things have great value to me. Little simple gestures change lives daily. The things I do for others because of what He’s done for me make a difference in people’s lives. Little things people do for me, I genuinely appreciate and show gratitude for. Each day the sun rises I feel grateful for the little blessings He blesses me with. I celebrate small milestones along the way.

Life can get pretty complicated sometimes. When it does, I re-focus myself and acknowledge the contentment I find in simplicity. After a hard day’s work, I indulge in something I enjoy. I give myself permission to laugh. And I am grateful for these small moments.

Today, I acknowledge all the wondrous—yet simple—things that surround me. I am so grateful every day for the simple things in my life.

Each morning and every evening, I remember my God, who has cared for me since I was born, and carried me every step of my life. He has made me and cares for me and carries me along and is saving me. I inhale His blessings and exhale my gratitude. I naturally praise Him because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

With each breath, I think of something that He has blessed me with and entrusted to me. His works are wonderful. I know that full well. His eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in His book before one of them came to be. I am overwhelmed with the grace He grants me. He empowers me to accomplish every good work prompted by faith.

Whenever I am with the people I love and who love me, I take a moment to appreciate the blessing they bring into my life. My boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places; He has given me so much to enjoy. I inhale the moment and the joy that it brings to my life. Being present in the moment fills me with so much peace and satisfaction.

I think about what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. And I focus on things that are excellent and worthy of praise. It builds me up and keeps me going. It provides the reason for me to push through even the most difficult times.

During the hard days, I take a moment to meditate on God’s goodness and grace He has shown me and blessed me with. I remind myself that, although today seems impossible, I know I can trust my good Father because He cares for me. God is enough, and I have enough. He has given me everything I need for life and godliness.

Today, I am humbled by all the goodness that my life presents to me each day. There is so much to be grateful for. I say “thank you” for the blessings and my ability to share them with the world.

I live with my whole heart aligned with itself and with God. I live wholeheartedly. My heart is my emotions, but it’s also my decisions and my actions. The three need to agree. I can’t say one thing and do another. I can’t make a decision that goes counter to my emotions.

Peace is the only emotion I allow to rule in my heart. Other emotions make better servants than masters. My emotions show me what I truly believe. Aligning my decisions, my emotions and my actions enables me to enjoy His peace that passes all understanding. Thanksgiving aligns all three. Gratitude guards my heart.

With thanksgiving, I let the spoken word of God fill my life. I fix my thoughts on what is true, and honourable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. I think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

With thankfulness in my heart, I sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs and I teach and get counsel with all the wisdom He gives. I obey what He says. I only do what I see the Father do. I only say what I hear the Father say. My steps are guided by gratitude. I do everything I do as unto the Lord, and I do it all with gratitude.

Today, giving thanks is a natural part of my life. I feel grateful. It’s not a rote declaration. I celebrate opportunities to show my appreciation. I let the peace of God rule in my heart, and I am always thankful. Gratitude is the attitude that guards my whole heart.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. He blesses me with every spiritual blessing in Christ. All of God’s promises are “yes” and “amen”. Every moment of every day, I see His endless blessings around me. I appreciate everything associated with life to be something special.

A joyful heart is good medicine. Gratitude and appreciation open the door for joy. When I hear the laughter of children, I feel blessed to share that joy. When I see the care someone shows another, I appreciate the God who loves us.

As I am filled with Holy Spirit, I can give thanks to God the Father FOR all things. I can trust He is working all things together for the good and I choose to remember how He’s done so many times for me in this life. I take the time to learn from each experience and feel blessed to learn life lessons along the way.

Taking in the fresh air at sunrise brings me so much happiness. I feel my lungs expand. I remember the steadfast love of the Lord never changes, His mercy never comes to an end; they are new every morning. I am blessed to be alive. I will live all the days of my life.

All my senses are alive. My eyes, ears, nose and touch can enjoy all the blessings God is ready to overwhelm me with today. All the days of my life have been written in His book before one of them came to be. I am truly grateful to be in this position. I know that everything I can do is because I am truly blessed.

Today, I avoid taking things for granted. Even the simple things are truly appreciated, because I know these blessings come from God. I celebrate everything I have and avoid complaining about what I still wait for. Each day, I look forward to the chance to give thanks! The Lord blesses me and keeps me; the Lord makes His face to shine upon me and is gracious to Me; the Lord lifts His countenance upon me and gives me peace. I am grateful for the blessings that surround me this and every day.

I am called to be a blessing, and I choose to be one to someone today. As I bless others, I am blessed. As I refresh others, I am refreshed. In all things, I am blessed, and I choose to notice all the good in my life and feel grateful. Even if I experience challenging events, I always remember how blessed I am and choose to feel thankful and do something to show someone appreciation. I will praise and thank God before the battle and in every battle.

I always have plenty of whatever I need. My good Father gives me good gifts and I trust Him to take care of my needs. And often, I am blessed with more than enough. I am loved, and I live loved as I share from my abundance with a joyful heart.

My gratitude and generosity opens the storehouses of heaven. God overwhelms me with more blessings that I can even imagine, so I am taken care of in every way and have more than enough to share. I give and I receive. My gift returns to me in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into my lap. The amount I give determines the amount I get back.

Even when I have an opportunity to doubt, I make the choice to trust in the Lord with all my heart. I will praise Him in the storm and will rejoice before my answer comes. I will remind myself of how He’s overwhelmed me with blessing in the past and choose to be grateful for the many blessings I have. My good Father will provide all my needs according to His riches in glory.

I look after the blessings God entrusts to me and don’t bury them in the ground. Instead, I invest them in others and I seek to multiply what He entrusts to me for His glory. I tell others about the good things He’s done for me and use the abundance He provides to bless others. I remember how others have encouraged Me, so I speak the truth in love and let nothing come out of my mouth that isn’t for the encouragement of others. What I have to give, I give to meet the needs of others.

My God is generous, and my heart is abundant. Blessings come to me freely, and I cultivate gratitude and generosity to bless others with what I’ve been blessed with.

Today, I choose to feel thankful and purpose to bless someone in some meaningful way. I make space to reflect on how I can feel. I am blessed and I regularly experience gratitude for all the wonderful things in my life. And I seek opportunities to show this gratitude by living with a sense of abundance.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. As I walk outside each day, marvel at the mystery. I look around and am amazed at the life surrounding me. Inhaling the air, I notice the sensation of the breeze across my face. I am struck by the beauty of creation. Day after day, creation speaks. Night after night, it makes Him known. They speak without a voice and shout loudly when they are noticed.

The beauty of creation wraps its arms around me. Today can be a good day or a trying day. No matter which, my Creator and His world are right here. He’s waiting to guide me through the day-to-day of my every day. I choose to think of His good thoughts towards me. His good thoughts are for me and not against me. They are more than all the grains of sand on every beach on every ocean and every dune in every desert. He rejoices over me with singing. He quiets me with His love. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me!

I feel grateful every time I think about creation and am amazed and in awe of what the Creator has created for me to enjoy. I gasp in sheer joy when I see deep purple blooms on the bushes or snowflakes falling from the sky. The rich, green grass of summer tickles my nose with its aroma. The laughter of children playing in the sun makes me smile and laugh inside. A rainbow reminds me of His promise. What am I that You are mindful of me? Who am I that You care for me? I am so grateful that You do. I am so grateful I can trust You.

If a troubling thought nags at my mind, I choose to do something about it. I take a walk in the open air and I breathe in; I breathe out. The aromas of nature and the caress of the breeze rise to meet me. Since my Father cares about the little sparrows, so they have food even if they don’t store up and the grass of the field, so it looks so good, even though it can be thrown in the flame tomorrow - I trust Him to take care of me. I remember I can cast my care upon Him because He cares for me. I worry about nothing, pray about everything, and thank God in all situations. Creation helps me remember Him and His care for me.

Today, I promise to be in the moment and take intimate notice of creation shouting the story of the Father’s love for it. The colour of the sky, the faint fragrance in the air, and the sound of the trees rustling in the breeze all remind me of His care for me.

  2. How do I make an opportunity to relax in the beauty of creation today?
  3. Regardless of my mood each day, how can I remind myself to turn to creation for solace and sustenance for my soul?

Trust God in times of Uncertainty

We live in a world that has yet to be redeemed, surrounded by people who at best are being redeemed and at worst and doing everything they can not to be redeemed, in bodies that yearn to be redeemed.

All that is to say, like Jesus said “In this world you will have trouble…” but he goes on and says “but take heart I have overcome the world.”

“Life will shake us, trust steadies us.”

If I could impart to brand-new baby Christians only three things they would be:

  1. To Hear God
  2. To Obey God
  3. To Trust God when you can’t hear him and obeying him doesn’t make sense.

Because we’re all going to be there time and time again. We are 1 text, 1 email, 1 phone call away from everything changing, our world upending, our future being uncertain.

You might be there right now. Your hope will be tested in your relationships, in your health and in what you receive for what you do. Those three things make up who you are. Your identity will be tested. The enemy wants to kill, steal and destroy you. The Father wants to take what the enemy does and make you more like Jesus.

Will you trust Him in that process?

When life shakes us, trust steadies us.

Story of Daniel

Give background of story. Nebuchadnezzar captured Jerusalem (2 Kings 24:10-16) and took Daniel and his friends as hostages. They didn’t eat meat sacrificed to idols and still out performed all the others and God gave them unusual aptitude for understanding every aspect of literature and wisdom. Daniel was given the ability to interpret dreams and visions (Daniel 1:17) The Babylonian empire was taken over by the Persian empire and Daniel rose in the ranks. That gets us to chapter six where Daniel faced time of uncertainty.

Daniel and the Lions Den

Read Daniel 6:1-28 (NLT)

Darius (daw-reh-yaw-vaysh’) the Mede decided to divide the kingdom into 120 provinces, and he appointed a high officer to rule over each province. The king also chose Daniel and two others as administrators to supervise the high officers and protect the king’s interests. Daniel soon proved himself more capable than all the other administrators and high officers. Because of Daniel’s great ability, the king made plans to place him over the entire empire.

Daniel found trustworthy

Then the other administrators and high officers began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling government affairs, but they couldn’t find anything to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy.

The trap is set

So they concluded, “Our only chance of finding grounds for accusing Daniel will be in connection with the rules of his religion.” So the administrators and high officers went to the king and said, “Long live King Darius! We are all in agreement—we administrators, officials, high officers, advisers, and governors—that the king should make a law that will be strictly enforced. Give orders that for the next thirty days any person who prays to anyone, divine or human—except to you, Your Majesty—will be thrown into the den of lions. And now, Your Majesty, issue and sign this law so it cannot be changed, an official law of the Medes and Persians that cannot be revoked.” So King Darius signed the law.

Daniel stayed trusting God

But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. Then the officials went together to Daniel’s house and found him praying and asking for God’s help. So they went straight to the king and reminded him about his law. “Did you not sign a law that for the next thirty days any person who prays to anyone, divine or human—except to you, Your Majesty—will be thrown into the den of lions?” “Yes,” the king replied, “that decision stands; it is an official law of the Medes and Persians that cannot be revoked.” Then they told the king, “That man Daniel, one of the captives from Judah, is ignoring you and your law. He still prays to his God three times a day.” Hearing this, the king was deeply troubled, and he tried to think of a way to save Daniel. He spent the rest of the day looking for a way to get Daniel out of this predicament.

The King trusts Daniel to God

In the evening the men went together to the king and said, “Your Majesty, you know that according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, no law that the king signs can be changed.” So at last the king gave orders for Daniel to be arrested and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to him, “May your God, whom you serve so faithfully, rescue you.” A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den. The king sealed the stone with his own royal seal and the seals of his nobles, so that no one could rescue Daniel. Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night fasting. He refused his usual entertainment and couldn’t sleep at all that night.

Because Daniel Trusted God

Very early the next morning, the king got up and hurried out to the lions’ den. When he got there, he called out in anguish, “Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you serve so faithfully, able to rescue you from the lions?” Daniel answered, “Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions’ mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty.” The king was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be lifted from the den. Not a scratch was found on him, for he had trusted in his God.

Repaying the evil

Then the king gave orders to arrest the men who had maliciously accused Daniel. He had them thrown into the lions’ den, along with their wives and children. The lions leaped on them and tore them apart before they even hit the floor of the den.

The end of the story

Then King Darius sent this message to the people of every race and nation and language throughout the world: “Peace and prosperity to you! “I decree that everyone throughout my kingdom should tremble with fear before the God of Daniel. For he is the living God, and he will endure forever. His kingdom will never be destroyed, and his rule will never end. He rescues and saves his people; he performs miraculous signs and wonders in the heavens and on earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.” So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Daniel did everything right and ended up in a lion’s den. But he trusted in his God and miracles happened. He is a wonderful example of:

My Day Job

My day job I work with companies who care about their employees mental wellness. Our service is unique. Instead of simply getting a phone number to call or app to use when someone is needing help to self-regulate in the moment, these companies go a step further and and bring our care team support system onto their worksite to make regular visit so that - over time - their employees have someone they already trust to talk to when they need to.

I connect teams with companies. So I need to look for people who are trustable, capable and caring to join our teams. And that means I’ve had to think about what trust looks like and how to build it between people. I’ve become convinced that the way we build trust between people is very similar to how we build trust between ourselves and God.

Today I want to focus on Convergence of Testimony - basically how a multiplicity of stories helps us to trust not only each other, but also God. We don’t name and claim one verse with God and try to convince ourselves of the truth. Instead it’s an ever-developing, often more-complicating dance of trust that happens throughout our lives.

Convergence of Testimony

When I’m taking to potential Care Team members I let them know the progression we see on worksites. If they are going to be the first ones on the site, it’s probably not going to be going to be easy. Hopefully the employees are polite and a little communicative. But consistency over time will always lead to deeper trust. Just being there, showing up, remembering names and continuing stories…and over time, people will risk trusting you with their problems.

HR Trust us

The first ones who come to you with bigger problems will probably start with “HR told me to come talk to you.” HR love us when they learn to trust us. One more than one occasion I’ve had an HR tell me “Trevor you take care of the person, I’ll take care of the paperwork.” So the first people who come to us will usually say, “HR told me to come”.

Supervisors Trust us

Then when you’ve been there a little longer and helped a few more people, someone will come to you and say “My supervisor told me to come talk to you.” That’s great because it’s not an easy thing to have a supervisor trust you with their people. They need to see you in action. But when you help enough of their people, and maybe even help them - in time- they’ll trust you their team members.

Friends Trust us

Then in little more time, as HR is sending you people and supervisors are sending you people you’ll have someone come to you and say “My friend told me to come talk to you.”

That’s a convergence of testimony. This person’s friend trusts you enough to tell their friend to go to you for help.

When that happens, when you come on site, people will see you and their shoulders go back and a smile comes to their face. They sit up at their desk. They might smile and wave. It’s not that they all have something terrible to share with you that day. It’s that this convergence of testimony tells them that they are cared for and tells you that you’re trusted.

I have seen that when we have a convergence of testimony on the goodness of God, trust looks the same in us. We have peace, we have hope, we have joy.

So what is Trust?

1. Noun: Confidence: A firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. Reliance: The state of relying on someone or something. Trustworthiness: The quality of being reliable or deserving of trust.

2. Verb: To place confidence in someone or something; to rely on the integrity, strength, or ability of a person or thing.

What is Biblical Trust?

  • Faith and Assurance Hebrews 11:1
  • Relationship with God Proverbs 3:5-6
  • Obedience to God John 14:15
  • Peace in Difficult Times Philippians 4:6-7
  • Confidence in God's Faithfulness Lamentations 3:22-23

When life shakes us, trust steadies us.

What does trust look like?

When we trust God we surrender control (Proverbs 3:5-6), have faith in his promises (Romans 4:20-21) and find peace in our uncertainty (Philippians 4:6-7) We seek out His guidance (Psalm 25:4-5) and endure through life’s challenges (Isaiah 40:3). We exchange our problems for His peace (1 Peter 5:7) and rejoice in His goodness (Psalm 37:3-4)

How do we know if we don’t trust Him?

The first clues we’ll notice are lacking are peace, joy and hope. If you don’t have peace, joy and hope, you’re not trusting God somewhere for something.

Romans 15:13 (NIV): "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." — Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)

When we trust in God we have peace, joy and hope.

Imagine

  • Do you want to have peace and hope and joy at all times and in every situation?
  • Do you want to have no fear of bad news when it comes?
  • Do you want to exchange your problems for His peace?

You need to decide to trust him when difficulties come. Or better yet, trust him now if you don’t have difficulties. It’s never too early to start and never too late to trust God more.

When’s the best time to trust the Lord?

Well, when’s the best to plant a tree? Twenty years ago. When’s the next best time to plant a tree? Today.

When’s the best time to trust the Lord? Every day of your life. When’s the next best time to trust the Lord? You can start or restart today.

Listen,

You know you’re going to need it.

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

You know others will see it.

1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

You know you’re going to use it.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

When life shakes us, trust steadies us.

We need to know how to trust God. It matters.

So how can a convergence of testimony help you trust in the Lord at all times?

That’s a great question, I’m so glad you asked.

Now when you do this, you need to make two decisions. These two decisions need to continually be made or else the practice I give you will lead to so many other places but not to trust and not to peace and hope and joy.

Are we clear? You will be.

M - Meditate with Gratitude

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

When we choose gratitude we look to what He is doing, not to what’s left undone. We need to do this with our whole heart, otherwise it can become toxic gratitude. You know what that is, saying you’re grateful without feeling it or showing appreciation.

This week I’m starting a 70 Day Gratitude Challenge where everyday I want to choose to be grateful, feel gratitude and show appreciation. We’re told in scripture to give thanks with our whole heart (Psalms 138:1) and that’s what it means. We make the decision, we feel the emotion and we act on that decision and emotion. I’m going to be doing live casts, podcasts and blog posts each day from September 19 through Canadian Thanksgiving to November 28 (American Thanksgiving).

Gratitude is so important to guard the actions I’m going to be encouraging you to do. To:

Because Gratitude grasps grace. We awaken to the grace of God and can extend His grace to others.

Am I giving thanks in all circumstances?

The second decision we need to continually make is lordship. The Y in MY reminds us to yield to His control.

Y - Yield to His Control

1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord.

Surrender and Lordship is not something we talk about much anymore. I think I assume we all know what it means. I know it’s not true. I just know I assume it.

For me lordship means He’s in the driver seat of my life. I need to go when He says “Go” and stop when He says “Stop” and wait when he says “Wait” because it’s in Him I can live and move and have my being.

And yet it’s so easy for me not to live that way in the day-to-day of everyday.

The good news is He gives us Holy Spirit to teach us all things. And He has this way of pointing things out for me that I grow clueless to on my own. Yes, sometimes it’s in the voice of my wife.

Don’t turn off your compassion. Compassion conquers comparison. Jesus was led by His compassion and you need to be led by the compassion He gives you. Since He is Lord, you follow Him.

Follow those gentle nudges and loud shouts of Holy Spirit. We need to abide in Christ and let his words abide in us. That’s what Lordship means. When he is Lord of my life, I can pray and ask anything in his name (John 14:13-17) and speak the very words of God (1 Peter 4:11)

When we agree that He is King and that’s a good thing, we are led by His compassion and compassion conquers comparison.

So we can:

  • Look down
  • Look up
  • Look around
  • Look back
  • Look ahead

With His grace and a heart of compassion.

In my heart have I set apart Christ as Lord?

So with grace and compassion we do these actions.

S - Soak in Scripture

Psalm 77:11-12 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”

Scripture is the revealed word of God. It’s written by 40 people over 1500 years across 3 continents, in 3 languages and it’s all about trusting God. It’s his love letter to us and it reveals the love of God which is why he is trustable.

If you want to have convergence of testimony so you can trust God in times of uncertainty, it starts with being in the word. Let the word of God dwell in you richly.

Am I letting the Word of God dwell in me richly?

Look up

T - Take time to be in His presence

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

When we are alone in His presence He can rewrite the story of our life. Where we saw lack, he can show us protection. When we saw pain, he can show us healing. Where we saw rejection, he can show us acceptance. We need his opinion of us, because that’s the only opinion that matters.

We have an enemy that comes to steal, kill and destroy. We need to be aware of our Good Father’s presence and hear his voice speak the words of life to us.

Whenever we go to Him in prayer we need to exchange your problems for His peace. When we’ve leave his presence without his peace, all we’ve done is complained.

When we hear what God says about us, it adds to the convergence of testimony that we need to trust Him at all times and in every situation.

Do I exchange my problems for His peace?

Look around

O - Observe God’s work in others

Hebrews 10:23-24 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,

The saints overcome by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. Revelation 12:11 When we tell each other the good things that God has done in our life, we invite Him to do it again. We need each other’s story. Your story becomes part of my story. Your good news connects with my good news and we have a convergence of testimony.

What has God done for others? Where can you see him working all things together for good in their lives?

If he did it for them, he’ll do it for you. If he did it for you, he’ll do it for you.

Observing the good God does for others adds to the convergence of testimony that helps us trust Him in uncertainty.

Do I rejoice with other’s testimony?

Look back

R - Rehearse what He’s done in your life

1 Corinthians 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

What has God done in your life? Can’t think of anything? Ask Holy Spirit to remind you.

Because you have been through the fire and have not been burned. You have been through the water and did not drown. You’ve been through deep waters and have not been overcome. You have seen the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. You can be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord because He has been good to you.

Read your journals. If you don’t have journals, ask Holy Spirit what He’d like to remind you of…then write it down someplace your remember to read it sometime. Your story is important to your future and even unborn generations.

Remembering what God has brought you through adds to the convergence of testimony we need to trust him when we might otherwise be concerned about his trustworthiness.

Y - Yearn for greater revelation

Ephesians 3:17-19 (NIV) And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

One of the hardest times I have containing myself—it’s usually when someone is risking to share something with me and I need to contain myself and let them talk—it’s when someone says “I’ve studied the Bible and it does nothing for me.” I want to scream “You’re 16 years old! How have you studied the Bible? It’s still reading me!”

In the history of evangelicalism, we’ve done a great disservice to emphasize praying a prayer to make Jesus our Lord. First off, Jesus is Lord. We acknowledge that and start to live like he’s Lord. And that’s confession and repentance that leads to salvation. Secondly, we’ve inoculated people against the transformative power of the gospel by saying, “You want to not go to hell, say Jesus is Lord.”

We can know the love of God that surpasses knowledge.

Just consider that nonsensical statement…and be in awe.

Having a heart to know God (Jeremiah 24:7) adds to the convergence of testimony that allows us to have no fear of bad news even when it comes.

Probably, if I could teach brand new baby Christians 3 things it would be to always have a heart to Know God, Obey God and Trust God. Figuring those three out in your life, you’ll change your everyday world.

Do I have a heart to know God?

You and I need a continual revelation of the love of God, so that we can trust Him.
